The schedule for the 2027 IIHF World Junior Championship, co-hosted by Red Deer and Edmonton, was released Tuesday, placing all Group A preliminary games at the Marchant Crane Centrium in Red Deer over the Boxing Day holiday week.

Group A — featuring Finland, Germany, Slovakia, Sweden and the United States — will play every one of its preliminary games in Red Deer. The full local schedule runs Dec. 26 through Dec. 31 with daily games timed in afternoon and evening slots, including high-profile matchups such as Sweden vs. Finland and United States vs. Sweden.

Impact across the region and ticketing details
While Group B preliminary games, the semifinals and medal games will be staged at Edmonton’s Rogers Place, quarterfinals and the relegation game on Jan. 2 will be played prior to the tournament shifting exclusively to Edmonton for the semifinals on Jan. 4 and medal games on Jan. 5. That split means Red Deer will host six days of preliminary play and be a focal point for visiting delegations, media and travelling fans during the holiday period.
“In partnership with the IIHF and our incredible event partners, we are excited to unveil the schedule for the upcoming IIHF World Junior Championship that will be played on Canadian ice for the first time in two years,” said Dean McIntosh, Hockey Canada’s senior vice-president of revenue, fan experience and community impact.
The tournament organisers say more than 80,000 fans signed up for the World Juniors 2027 Priority Draw for a chance at tournament ticket packages and pre-sale access. A pre-sale for individual tickets begins Sept. 23, with limited individual tickets available to the public at 10 a.m. on Sept. 25 via HockeyCanada.ca/Tickets. Tournament organisers also noted that, pending availability, a limited quantity of Edmonton ticket packages may be offered.
