After a brief layoff, action returns to Peterborough Speedway on Saturday, Aug. 22, when the track’s Late Model division starts a concentrated three-week run that organisers say could have a meaningful impact on the 2026 championship picture.
What’s coming to the track
Race night programming will not be limited to Late Models. The Aug. 22 card includes a 50-lap Bone Stock Shootout for home-track Bone Stock competitors, plus the Super Stocks and the Ontario Legend Car Series. Family-friendly features are folded into the evening, with Kid’s Bike Races scheduled as the intermission attraction. Grandstand gates open at 5:00 p.m. and the first Great Canadian RV green flag is slated for 6:00 p.m.
"After a week away, the home track Late Model division will return to action on Saturday, August 22nd at Peterborough Speedway."
The Hot August Nights Racing stretch wraps up with the Saturday, Sept. 5 Championship Clash, presented by APC Auto Parts Centres.
Local faces and stakes
Among the competitors is Codrington’s Jassen Whyte, driving the No. 55 car. Whyte, who is currently just outside the top 10 in the standings, brings local interest to the final run of races. His background includes time in Bone Stock and Mini Stock equipment; he started around motorsport at a young age — spending summer nights as a tire-pressure specialist on his uncle’s racecars — and later progressed into driving. The 29-year-old balances racing with work as a delivery driver and fields sponsorship from NJ Bread Co. and K&K Kustoms.
Organisers and teams are pitching this concentrated series of events as a last, meaningful opportunity for drivers near the top of the standings to improve their positions before the season’s close. For local fans, the three-week stretch provides sustained race-weekend entertainment and an opportunity to follow hometown drivers as championship permutations unfold.
How to follow and attend
Race fans can watch the action in person or follow teams online. The No. 55 team posts updates through @55Racing on Facebook. Peterborough Speedway posts schedules, notices and additional information at www.peterboroughspeedway.com and across its social channels.

For many community members, Peterborough Speedway remains a visible local institution bridging urban and rural audiences across Peterborough County. The late-August events present a chance for grassroots motorsport supporters to see local talent compete under lights while families and casual spectators can enjoy a summer-evening crowd activity.
Whether residents follow the standings closely or attend for the atmosphere and family programming, the next three weekends will be decisive for drivers on the cusp of the points race. Local teams and volunteers will be working into the nights to prepare cars, manage pit operations and cater to a loyal fan base that has long sustained weekly racing at the track.
Tickets, paddock access and additional event details are available through the track’s website and social platforms. Teams typically use social media to post last-minute changes and results after each night’s action.
