Co-coaching duo to lead Stellenbosch into key Super League fixtures
Stellenbosch FC Ladies have confirmed the appointment of Ilze Jones and Shannon Mills as co-coaches for the remainder of the Hollywoodbets Super League season, the club announced on Friday.
The pair bring local knowledge and recent success in the Western Cape women’s game. Jones is already known to Stellenbosch supporters after serving as head coach of the club’s reserve side in the SASOL Women’s League, while Mills arrives following a promotion-winning spell with Salt River Blackpool.
“It’s a great honour for me to have been appointed to this role,” Jones said. “I’ve been with Stellenbosch for almost three years, so I know the culture of the Club, and I’ve seen the growth that has happened... It’s great stepping into this role with Shannon, and I’m really excited for us to build on what we have here.”
Mills added:
“To be the coach of Stellenbosch FC is a great honour for me, especially at this point in my career. I’m proud to be here and very much looking forward to what comes next... Having this time in the top division is massive for women’s football in the region, and in the province as a whole.”
Qualifications and immediate responsibilities
Both coaches hold CAF B qualifications, signalling recognised coaching accreditation in the South African and continental game. The club said the decision aims to build on the structures already in place and to provide continuity for players competing at the top level.
The duo will be in the dugout for the first time this weekend when Stellenbosch FC Ladies travel to face the TS Galaxy Queens at Sol Plaatjie Stadium. The match presents an early test of the new coaching arrangement as the team seeks to consolidate its place in the Hollywoodbets Super League.
- Ilze Jones — promoted from reserve team coaching, familiar with club culture and players.
- Shannon Mills — arrives after guiding Salt River Blackpool to promotion to the second tier.
- Both — hold CAF B coaching qualifications and are regarded as promising young coaches in South African women’s football.
Local significance and pathway development
The appointment underlines Stellenbosch’s investment in a pathway from reserve and local-club football to the top flight. Jones’s internal promotion suggests the club values continuity and progression within its coaching ranks, while Mills’s rapid rise after success with Salt River Blackpool highlights the talent in the Western Cape coaching pool.
Stellenbosch’s presence in the Hollywoodbets Super League is also important for the region. As both coaches noted, sustained top-flight participation offers more opportunities for local players and raises the profile of women’s football across the province.
The club emphasised unity and a positive dressing-room atmosphere as assets the new co-coaches inherit. Jones described the environment as a “big plus” and something that can “pull us through” the challenges ahead.

The co-coaching model is increasingly used in women’s football to blend complementary strengths; for Stellenbosch, the pairing of a club insider with a coach experienced in winning promotion aims to combine institutional knowledge with recent success elsewhere. The immediate challenge is practical: achieve results and maintain momentum in the Hollywoodbets Super League while continuing to develop the club’s local players.
