Officer injured during early-morning call in gated southwest valley community
A Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officer was shot and taken to University Medical Center after responding to a domestic disturbance in the southwest valley early Monday morning, authorities said. SWAT and crisis negotiators later found a suspect and a juvenile female inside the home suffering from apparent gunshot wounds; both were pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.
The incident began shortly after midnight when a woman called 911 from a residence in the 4500 block of Pigeon Point Court, a gated community near Peace Way and Buffalo Drive, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officials said. The caller told dispatchers that her boyfriend was attempting to set her on fire with a blowtorch and later said she had been shot.
- Call received: about 12:29 a.m.
- Location: 4500 block of Pigeon Point Court, gated community near Peace Way and Buffalo Drive
- Victims located inside home: suspect and a juvenile female — both pronounced dead
- Police officer: shot, taken to UMC; condition described as stable
Police say officers entered the home immediately after arriving. As they made contact, they encountered the suspect behind a door; the suspect opened fire and struck one officer. Another officer returned fire, and officers withdrew from the residence to allow specialized units to take over the scene.
"The officer hit by the gunfire was taken to UMC, and Seely described her condition as stable,"
Capt. Adam Seely told reporters that SWAT and crisis negotiators later entered the home and located the two people with apparent gunshot wounds. Homicide detectives have taken over the investigation, and police did not immediately release the names of the dead or the wounded.
Context and department statistics
Police officials said this is the 10th officer-involved shooting for the department so far this year. The incident comes less than a week after another officer-involved shooting that resulted in the death of an LVMPD officer in the southeast valley.
| Item | Detail |

Investigators have not released additional details about the ages of those involved, the relationship between the suspect and the juvenile, or the circumstances that led to the fatal wounds found inside the home. Detectives with LVMPD's homicide unit are conducting the probe, which will include interviews, evidence collection and review of any body-worn camera or video captured by officers who responded.
Residents in the gated neighborhood described a heavy police presence overnight as specialized units worked the scene. Neighbors were asked to avoid the area while officers processed the house and collected evidence.
What remains unanswered
Key questions remain about the sequence of events inside the home before officers arrived, whether the juvenile was related to the suspect, and whether any additional persons were involved. Police have not identified the officer who was shot nor provided details on the suspect's identity pending family notifications and further investigation.
The department's announcement framed the call as a domestic violence incident that escalated rapidly into an exchange of gunfire. Officials said the woman who placed the 911 call was able to leave the home and was being treated for minor injuries.
As homicide detectives continue their work, the Las Vegas community will be watching for more details about what led to the shooting and how the department will respond to another violent incident involving its officers. Updates from LVMPD are expected as investigators complete interviews and forensic examinations.
