Roseville residents will soon have a new indoor golf option when Back Nine Golf opens a 2,800-square-foot facility in the TJ Maxx Plaza at 1850 Douglas Blvd, franchise owner Matt Antrobus confirmed Thursday.
What the Roseville location will offer
The Roseville site will contain four Full Swing golf simulator bays, the same brand used by the PGA Tour and TGL, and will operate on a membership model. Antrobus said the business is targeting a January opening.
- Size and location: about 2,800 square feet at Suite 516, 1850 Douglas Blvd.
- Simulator bays: four Full Swing bays; each bay’s hardware runs roughly $60,000, Antrobus said.
- Hours and access: 24-hour access for members, who will book tee times online and use QR codes to enter—reducing the need for staffed reception.
- Coaching: on-site coaches will be available for private lessons.
“It’s premier indoor golf, 24/7, with cutting-edge simulators,” Antrobus said.
Memberships will be offered in three tiers, with prices described as running around $179 to $359 a month. Tiers will vary by the length of the daily tee time window—from one hour on the lowest tier up to three hours on the highest tier—and will include differing levels of guest passes and tournament discounts. Early sign-ups will be able to lock in a founding-member discount: 20% off the lifetime of their membership, Antrobus said.
Why the concept is expanding
Back Nine Golf has grown rapidly as a franchise, with more than 300 locations currently open and more than 600 territories sold across the United States and internationally in Canada, the U.K., Australia and New Zealand, according to Antrobus. He and his wife, Jess Antrobus, are bringing the model to Roseville after operating other businesses previously; Matt Antrobus noted a background that includes owning Subway franchises and a decade in software and tech.
The company’s model—24/7 access through secure entry, simulator-based play and tiered memberships—reflects a broader trend in recreation toward convenience and technology-enabled self-service. For Roseville this means an indoor, weather-independent golf option that appeals to both dedicated golfers and casual players.
Local impacts and considerations
For shoppers and residents near the Douglas Boulevard corridor, the new tenant will change the mix at the TJ Maxx Plaza. The space previously housed The Serpentarium pet store. The simulator bays and membership model suggest limited on-site staffing, though Antrobus said coaches will be available for lessons, which could create a small number of local jobs for instructors and maintenance staff.
Potential users of the facility include:
- Golfers seeking year-round practice and data-driven improvement through Full Swing technology.
- Recreation-seekers who prefer indoor entertainment or want a social activity with friends.
- Players interested in coaching without the constraints of daylight or weather.
Antrobus emphasized the accessibility of the format, noting that membership holders will be able to book online and let themselves in using QR codes. That approach reduces front-of-house staffing needs but places importance on reliable digital systems and secure entry management. The business will also host private lessons with coaches on site, a service that could appeal to local junior or amateur players seeking improvement.
| Tier | Approx. price per month | Daily tee time window | Perks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tier 1 | About $179 | 1 hour | Guest passes, tournament discounts (scaled) |
| Tier 2 | Mid-range | Longer daily window | More guest passes, better discounts |
| Tier 3 | About $359 | Up to 3 hours | Maximum guest passes and tournament benefits |
Antrobus said coaches will be available for private lessons, but he did not provide details on pricing or staffing levels. He also encouraged early sign-ups to secure founding-member pricing, which promises a 20% lifetime discount for those who join before the facility opens.
