Investigators refine timeline after Oceanside mother’s disappearance
State and local investigators continue piecing together the movements of Angelica Brophy, a 44-year-old emergency room nurse from Oceanside who has been missing for roughly 80 days. New information provided to NBC 7 by a private investigator and by law enforcement sources offers a clearer picture of Brophy’s actions the day she disappeared and the subsequent search focused on Palomar Mountain.
Brophy’s vehicle was located at Palomar Mountain Park, and investigators say her Apple Watch registered a final location ping near the car. Those details have helped shape a working timeline that begins in Temecula on the morning of July 6 and ends with her unexplained absence after arriving at the state park.
“The reason why everything was left in the car, and the way it was left, it was more a goodbye,” said private investigator Anthony Campbell, who was hired by colleagues of Brophy and later continued assisting as a volunteer.
Campbell, who initially served as a private investigator on the matter, told reporters he believes Brophy remains on Palomar Mountain. He subsequently resigned his paid role but continued to assist the family and their search efforts as a volunteer, he said.
Day-of timeline
Investigators have compiled a timeline based on witness statements, digital traces and casino records that places Brophy at several locations before she reached Palomar State Park. According to reporting by NBC 7 and information posted by the family, the sequence on July 6 included stops in Temecula and two casinos, followed by travel to the mountain park.
- Morning: Brophy dropped her daughter off at summer camp.
- Shortly after: She stopped at Quickstop Smoke Shop in Temecula and entered and exited the store alone.
- Later: She visited Pechanga Resort Casino alone, played slot machines and table games and collected winnings.
- Approximately two hours later: She left Pechanga, then visited Harrah’s Casino.
- Afterward: She went to Palomar State Park, where her vehicle was later found and her Apple Watch pinged once more nearby.

Investigative focus and background checks
Law enforcement sources told NBC 7 investigators have examined multiple aspects of Brophy’s life, including her marriage and history of gambling. The sources said that while investigators looked into her relationship with her husband, Brent, they have concluded he is not a suspect in the disappearance.
The reporting also notes Brophy had disappeared for a week about a decade ago and was later located gambling in Las Vegas. Casino employees and other sources have told investigators that Brophy frequented Pechanga and was regarded by some as a higher-tier player who returned often to collect complimentary chips.
Family members and co-workers who retained private investigators continue to press for answers. The investigator who spoke publicly said he stepped down from a paid role to avoid upsetting the family but remains involved on a volunteer basis.
Community concerns and next steps
The case has prompted concern in the Oceanside community, where Brophy worked as an emergency room nurse and raised two children. Investigators have used a combination of digital forensics, casino surveillance and on-the-ground searches around Palomar Mountain in recent weeks.
Authorities have not released additional forensic findings or new leads beyond the timeline and the status of the vehicle and wearable-device ping. Residents with information about Brophy’s movements on July 6 or who may have seen her in the Palomar area are urged to contact the San Diego County Sheriff's Department or local investigators handling the case.
The family maintains a public timeline on their website and continues to appeal for tips while awaiting further updates from law enforcement.
