Grays Athletic slumped out of the FA Trophy at the first qualifying stage after a 4-1 defeat at Canvey Island on Saturday, a game the club later described as "disastrous" on social media. The tie was effectively decided in the first half when the Gulls established a three-goal advantage, and the visitors were reduced to nine men in the closing stages after two red cards.
First half swing leaves Grays on the back foot
The sides were competitive for the opening 15 minutes, with Grays testing home goalkeeper David Hughes on more than one occasion.
