Bordumsa, Changlang (Arunachal Pradesh), Sept 4: Tension erupted in Bordumsa after a Special Inquiry Report (SIR) hearing concerning Bijoypur was disrupted by protesters on Friday, the administration said, prompting imposition of prohibitory orders under BNSS Section 163 and deployment of heavy police forces.
Hearing adjourned, then resumed amid protests
Officials said the SIR hearing, initially convened at the panchayat hall on September 3 to consider claims and objections filed under Forms 6 and 7, was adjourned after disruptions by youths and rescheduled for September 4 at the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) office.
According to Bordumsa ADC Sabadam Tayang, when proceedings resumed on Friday a group of protesters identifying with the All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) allegedly broke the office gate, forced their way inside and disrupted the hearing. The ADC said the protesters vandalised office premises and manhandled him.
Clash between communities; injuries reported
Tayang reported that stones were hurled at members of the Chakma and Hajong communities who had gathered for the hearing, and that counter stone-pelting followed. He said an AAPSU volunteer sustained a head injury.
Heavy police contingents were dispatched to the scene and, officials said, the situation was under control at the time of reporting.

AAPSU president Meje Taku characterised the incident differently and alleged that a high-level committee of the students’ union visiting the area was targeted. He denied claims that injuries were caused by police tear gas or firearms and described reports of such use as AI-generated propaganda. Taku alleged that knives and daos were used against union members.

Taku demanded that no FIRs be registered against AAPSU members and accused certain local officials of “favouritism and nepotism” towards the Chakma and Hajong communities. He said AAPSU would submit a list seeking the immediate suspension of those officials and called for swift arrests of those responsible for the violence. The students’ body also urged suspension of the ongoing SIR process in Chakma-Hajong inhabited areas and convened an emergency extended meeting in Itanagar on September 12.
