The Telangana government has declared September 25 a holiday for government offices, schools and colleges located in and around Hyderabad and the adjoining districts of Ranga Reddy and Medchal Malkajgiri on account of the Ganesh Chaturthi immersion procession, a Government Order (GO) said on Wednesday, according to reporting by news agency PTI.
Working day swap
The GO states that November 14 will be observed as a working day for all government offices, schools and colleges in Hyderabad and the adjoining districts in lieu of the September 25 holiday. The swap affects academic and administrative calendars and officials have advised departments to make internal arrangements accordingly.
Security, surveillance and civic coordination
Authorities are bracing for large crowds and the immersion of thousands of Ganesh idols across the city on the concluding day of the festival. The GT reported that elaborate arrangements have been made for the immersion procession, with extensive deployment and surveillance.
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Police personnel deployed | About 30,000 officers for security, crowd management and traffic regulation (PTI) |
| CCTV surveillance | More than 10,000 cameras will be used across the city |
| Civic agencies involved | GHMC, TSPDCL, HMWS&SB and other departments coordinating bandobast |
Police and civic bodies have been conducting rehearsals and inter‑departmental coordination meetings to ensure that processions and immersion points are managed without incident. The strategy includes traffic diversions, temporary barricading of immersion points, and monitoring through fixed and mobile CCTV units.
Precautionary closures and area orders
In anticipation of the final immersion, certain commercial activities will be restricted in parts of the city. The Hyderabad City Police and Future City Police Commissionerate have ordered temporary closures of licensed liquor outlets in areas directly affected by visarjan processions.
- Wine shops, toddy shops and bars attached to restaurants within the Future City Police limits will remain closed from 6 am on Friday, September 25 to 6 am on Saturday, September 26, according to reports.
- Traffic diversions and no‑parking orders will be in force around major immersion ghats and waterways; motorists are advised to check local traffic advisories.
The immersion activity, which has been underway at selected ghats and water bodies since the third day of the festival in different localities, is expected to peak on Friday as community pandals complete their rituals and move towards designated visarjan points.
What residents should note
With the holiday covering government establishments and educational institutions in the city and adjoining districts, residents can expect:
- Increased police presence and temporary traffic restrictions near immersion routes.
- Heightened civic activity including GHMC personnel managing cleanliness at immersion spots, and HMWS&SB monitoring water connections near ghats.
- Temporary closure of certain commercial establishments within specific police limits.
Officials have urged citizens to follow police instructions at immersion points, avoid overcrowing at ghats, and make use of public announcements and local media for the latest advisories. The GO and police statements did not specify fines or penalties for violations but emphasised that arrangements were aimed at ensuring public safety and uninterrupted civic services.
As Hyderabad balances its rapid urban dynamics with large public festivities, the state administration has sought to minimise disruption by announcing the substitution working day in November while concentrating resources on managing the high footfall and safeguarding public order during the immersion procession.
Further updates and specific traffic diversion maps are expected from the Hyderabad City Police and GHMC ahead of the immersion day.
