District-level competition to span five days, begins at Pataliputra Sports Complex
The Patna district-level school sports competition under the annual sports programme 2026-27 will be held from September 30 to October 4 at various sports grounds in the city, officials said. The five-day event will provide students from government and recognised private schools a platform to showcase talent and vie for selection to higher-level meets.
The tournament will be inaugurated at 9 am on September 30 at the Pataliputra Sports Complex, Kankarbagh, where participating schools will take part in a march past. Cricket selection trials and other events will be organised at different venues across Patna, according to the district sports office.

| Under-17 | Class 9–11 |
| Under-19 | Class 11–12 |
Students from government middle, secondary and higher secondary schools, CBSE and ICSE-affiliated private schools, government Ambedkar Schools, OBC girls’ residential plus-two schools and institutions recognised for +2 level by the Bihar School Examination Board/Intermediate Education Council may take part. Kendriya Vidyalayas and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas are excluded, as per the guidelines circulated by the district sports office.
Participation rules set by organisers include limits on event entries: a player may compete in only one sport, while athletes may enter up to three athletics events. Schools are required to field complete teams in team sports.
Participants must submit a school head-certified form with copies of Aadhaar card, birth certificate and previous year’s marksheet.
Registration, documentation and logistics
Registration is free and will continue until September 26 at the District Sports Office located in the Sports Building, Rajendra Nagar. The documents required at registration include a school head-certified entry form, copies of the student’s Aadhaar card, birth certificate and the previous year’s marksheet, the office said.
Officials urged schools to ensure paperwork is complete and to plan travel and accommodation where needed, noting that events will be staged across multiple venues. Cricket selection trials and several other competitions will be held at separate grounds; the district office has advised school managers to check venue details when submitting entries.
Administration and expectations
District Magistrate Kundan Kumar directed officials to ensure maximum participation and to identify talented players who can progress to district, state and national-level competitions. The DM’s instructions, as reported by the sports office, emphasise both broad-based participation and stronger pathways for high-performing athletes.
Local sports administrators and school managers said the meet offers a pathway for pupils to move from school to district squads. For many students in Patna, district-level exposure is the first formal step in inter-district selection that can lead to state representation and access to coaching and scholarships.
Organisers also noted the event forms part of the state’s wider effort to strengthen grassroots sport in Bihar by using existing infrastructure such as the Pataliputra Sports Complex. The office has asked participating schools to ensure teams are accompanied by authorised staff and to follow competition rules to avoid disqualification.
Parents and school officials planning to send participants should complete registration before the September 26 deadline and ensure all required identity and educational documents are submitted with the school head’s endorsement.
