District administration orders immediate corrective measures at ANMMCH
Gaya — District Magistrate Shashank Shubhankar has ordered the withholding of salaries of six hospital and health managers at Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College and Hospital (ANMMCH) after an on-site inspection found serious shortcomings in cleanliness, waterlogging and other patient-care arrangements, officials said on Wednesday.
The DM also sought written explanations from the officials and directed the hospital administration to effect visible improvements within 10 days, warning of departmental action if the deficiencies are not rectified. The inspection focused on multiple public‑health and infrastructure touchpoints across the sprawling medical college campus.

During the tour, the DM examined cleanliness levels, presence of waterlogging, lighting in wards and corridors, availability of medicines, the status of medical facilities, quality of food served to patients and doctors’ attendance across various wards. Officials reported accumulation of rainwater at the hospital’s main entrance, an issue the DM flagged for immediate action.

Infrastructure and supply concerns highlighted
The DM directed the Bihar Medical Services and Infrastructure Corporation Ltd (BMSICL) agency to ensure immediate drainage of water at the entrance and to lay paver blocks to prevent recurrence. Hospital officials were asked to map areas on campus susceptible to waterlogging and propose permanent engineering solutions.
Lighting deficiencies were given a strict short deadline: installation of additional lights at identified dark spots within seven days. The administration underlined that inadequate lighting poses safety and infection-control risks in a major tertiary-care hospital.
Medicines, neonatal care and food quality scrutinised
The DM inspected the neonatal outpatient department and reviewed the medicines being prescribed for children. He asked for details of medicines available at the hospital and for a list of drugs patients were being prescribed to buy from private pharmacies. The review aimed to identify gaps forcing patients to purchase medicines externally.
Quality of food served to patients was another focus. The DM directed hospital managers to prepare a compliance plan to rectify deficits in diet and food hygiene for in-patients.

The district administration also instructed the sadar sub‑divisional officer (SDO) and city deputy superintendent of police (DSP) to launch a special drive against private ambulances that were reportedly parked within hospital premises. Officials said the inspection forms part of a broader district effort to improve healthcare services and patient facilities at the government medical institution, which serves as the premier state-run referral hospital in the region. Absent a satisfactory response or visible improvement within the stipulated period, the DM warned of departmental action against those held responsible for lapses in hospital management and patient care.
