Stade Saputo set for Saturday clash
CF Montréal will welcome D.C. United to Stade Saputo on Saturday, Aug. 15, with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET. The match is the second and final regular-season meeting between the clubs in 2026.
The hosts come into the fixture sitting 14th in the Eastern Conference with 16 points from 18 matches (record 4-10-4). Their most recent result was a spirited 2-2 draw against the New England Revolution at Saputo on Aug. 1, a game in which Montréal recovered from a two-goal first-half deficit to earn a share of the points.
CF Montréal's goals in that comeback came from defender Brayan Vera, who scored from distance in the 52nd minute, and forward Prince Owusu, who nodded home a Luca Petrasso cross in the 59th. Those strikes were the club's first since the FIFA World Cup break, ending a stretch of three scoreless league matches against Toronto FC, Nashville SC and Inter Miami CF.
"Those were CF Montréal's first goals since the FIFA World Cup break, ending a run of three consecutive scoreless matches,"
Offensively, Owusu has been Montréal's most potent threat in 2026, leading the team with 10 goals and five assists. Midfielder Wikelman Carmona has contributed four goals and four assists, while goalkeeper Thomas Gillier has been handed 15 starts and recorded four shutouts.
D.C. United arrive in form
D.C. United travel north with momentum after a run of positive results. The Black-and-Red are unbeaten in their last five matches and have collected points in 10 of their previous 11 outings. Their season mark ahead of Saturday is 5-5-8 for 23 points.
United's most recent match was a 2-2 draw with Eastern Conference leaders Nashville SC on Aug. 1 at Audi Field. In that game, D.C. United overturned a two-goal halftime deficit: defender Silvan Hefti scored his first MLS goal in the 56th minute, volleying home after a Louis Munteanu header was parried by Nashville goalkeeper Brian Schwake. Forward Tai Baribo levelled in the 77th minute for his team-leading 11th goal of the season and his fourth in as many games.
On the road this season, D.C. are 2-2-5, still searching for their first away win since May. Historically, the visitors have been competitive in Montréal: across regular-season meetings the series is evenly poised, and D.C. United hold a slight edge in goals.
- CF Montréal: 4-10-4, 16 points; Owusu 10 goals
- D.C. United: 5-5-8, 23 points; Baribo 11 goals
- Kickoff: 7:30 p.m. ET at Stade Saputo, Saturday, Aug. 15
| Team | 2026 record | Points |
|---|---|---|
| CF Montréal | 4-10-4 | 16 |
| D.C. United | 5-5-8 | 23 |
For Montréal, much rides on maintaining the recent confidence shown in the comeback against New England and turning home support into consistent results. The club's defensive resilience and ability to convert chances created by Owusu and Carmona will be decisive.
D.C. United, meanwhile, will look to capitalise on their current form. Their unbeaten run and the scoring touch of Baribo make them a dangerous opponent even away from Audi Field. How René Weiler's side manage the travel and tempo at Saputo will shape the outcome.
Historically the regular-season series between the clubs is level across 32 meetings (10-10-12) with D.C. United holding a 43-38 advantage in goals scored. The Black-and-Red's record in Montréal stands at 4-7-5 with 16 goals for and 21 against.
Saturday's match promises an intriguing tactical battle: Montréal chasing consistency at home and D.C. aiming to extend a positive run on the road. For local supporters, Stadion Saputo offers the most immediate chance this summer to assess whether CF Montréal can climb out of their current position in the East.
