The Charlottetown Service Canada Centre has been equipped with a new passport printer, allowing passports to be produced on site and giving Islanders access to faster turnaround times for urgent travel documents.

The federal government announced the upgrade Sept. 15, stating the addition of the printer enables the centre to offer both express and urgent passport services locally. Prior to the installation, passports for Prince Edward Island were printed in Halifax and couriered to Charlottetown, which limited service to a 10-business-day option and a modified express service.
