A 32‑year‑old foreign national accused of a sustained campaign of sexual assaults, robberies and burglaries against woman‑headed households across Limpopo is expected to appear in the Giyani magistrate’s court this week, police said on Tuesday.
Allegations span several years and districts
Limpopo police spokesperson Col Malesela Ledwaba told reporters the accused faces a total of 66 criminal counts arising from incidents allegedly committed between 2014 and 2020 in the Mopani and Vhembe districts. The charges were enrolled on an indictment for trial at the Thohoyandou high court, with the matter scheduled to resume on 25 January 2027, police said.
Police said the accused allegedly gained entry to homes, attacked women with a sharp object, raped them and stole belongings. Some victims were elderly — police said women up to the age of 74 were among those affected — and the attacks were concentrated in woman‑headed households, according to the provincial investigations unit.

Police said forensic evidence positively linked the accused to the offences. He was first arrested in 2020 but allegedly escaped from lawful custody before being rearrested in 2022. Since his rearrest he has remained in custody, and investigators say he sometimes used different names in attempts to evade detection.
The provincial investigations unit indicated there are additional related matters before a separate court. A further seven cases are expected to be joined to the main indictment and consolidated for trial.
