TRENTON — Two people were killed and eight others wounded after multiple suspects opened fire into a crowded block party on the 100 block of Locust Street just after midnight Sunday, Trenton police said.
Early morning attack at neighborhood gathering
Officers responded to reports of gunfire at about 12:23 a.m. and found several people suffering from gunshot wounds, authorities said. Victims were moved to Capital Health Regional Medical Center either by ambulance or private vehicle. Police said a total of 10 people suffered gunshot injuries; two victims — a 33-year-old woman and a 42-year-old man — were pronounced dead at the scene.
The remaining eight victims, including two women and six men ranging in age from 23 to 43, were treated for their injuries. Authorities did not immediately release the victims’ names or update their conditions beyond initial transport and treatment.
Scene spanned an entire block; evidence collected
Police said the shooting occurred at a large cookout or block party attended by an estimated 100 people. Investigators located more than 50 shell casings across the 100 block of Locust Street, indicating the gunfire covered a substantial area of the street and posed danger to many attendees and nearby residents.
