Travel delay, late start and a win for Truckee; local teams post several victories
Truckee’s football team endured a marathon bus trip and on-field improvisation but still left South Reno with a win Friday night, one of several Northern Nevada programs to post victories as the high school season rolls on.
The Wolverines, delayed multiple times en route, took care of Galena 26-11. The team’s journey included a four-and-a-half-hour bus ride and time spent stalled near Kings Beach because of traffic incidents. Truckee coaches and players improvised when they arrived: the bus pulled up next to the field at Galena and players dressed inside before taking a brief warm-up and going straight into action. The game did not start until about 8:30 p.m. and finished near 10:40 p.m.
"We wanted to play tonight, so we said, 'What's the latest you guys will start?'" Truckee coach Josh Ivens said.
In Reno, the Sparks’ Reno High School program posted a 24-8 victory over Foothill of Palo Cedro, Calif. Damonte Ranch broke away early and delivered a 36-7 win against Carson. Several other local programs recorded wins across the region Friday night.
