Pat Murphy, a Toronto-based music executive known for reshaping industry gatherings and programming major live events, has launched Post Script, an independent entertainment company aimed at integrating artist management, recorded music, touring, content and intellectual property services under one roof.
New company built around artist needs
Post Script — described by Murphy as the next chapter in his more than two decades working across management, live entertainment and recorded music — debuts following his departure from LOFT Entertainment and Departure Festival + Conference, where he served as executive director and head of programming. There, he helped transform Canadian Music Week into the expanded Departure festival and conference, overseeing programming that stretched beyond the event's original music-industry focus.
The company will operate initially through two divisions: PS Mgmt, a management arm, and PS Records, a label that will distribute through a partnership with Universal Music Canada. The arrangement pairs an independent, artist-driven approach with the global distribution and infrastructure of a major label partner.
“Post Script is about building the kind of company I believe artists need today,” Murphy said. “Management, records, touring, content, partnerships and media are increasingly interconnected. We want to build around what each artist actually needs rather than applying the same model to everyone.”
Murphy framed the Universal partnership as a way to retain entrepreneurial independence while accessing scale where necessary. He said the relationship gives Post Script the ability to stay "close to the artists" while drawing on an "incredible team and infrastructure" when required.
Initial roster and strategy
PS Mgmt launches with two inaugural clients that illustrate contrasting artist enterprises: the Webby Award-winning participatory group Choir! Choir! Choir!, and indie artist Sully Burrows. Choir! Choir! Choir! is known for large-scale, communal live performances and viral digital content that have included guest appearances and collaborations with established artists.
- PS Mgmt: focus on bespoke management tailored to each artist's business and creative needs.
- PS Records: independent label operation with distribution supplied by Universal Music Canada.
- Core approach: combine touring, recorded music, content, partnerships and IP development rather than applying one-size-fits-all models.
The company’s stated approach responds to broader industry trends in which boundaries between touring, recorded output, branded content and rights exploitation are increasingly blurred. By packaging those services internally, Post Script aims to offer artists coordinated strategy and day-to-day management while leveraging outside scale at pivotal moments.
| Division | Role / Partner | Initial Artists |
|---|---|---|
| PS Mgmt | Artist management | Choir! Choir! Choir!, Sully Burrows |
| PS Records | Recorded music, distribution via Universal Music Canada | To be announced |
Industry observers note that smaller, independent management and label ventures increasingly seek distribution and service partnerships with majors to combine nimbleness and specialization with reach and logistical capacity. Murphy’s new venture follows that template while emphasizing tailored plans for distinct artist models.
For artists such as Choir! Choir! Choir!, whose brand is built on participatory events and digital reach as much as recorded output, a management company that coordinates live experiences, content and rights exploitation could streamline expansion into touring, licensing and multimedia projects. For solo artists like Burrows, the model promises integrated campaign work across releases and live dates backed by distribution muscle when needed.
Post Script’s launch will be watched closely by Canadian and international industry participants as another example of how executives are reconfiguring services to fit artists’ diverse revenue streams and audience engagement strategies in the streaming era.
Further signings and detailed operational plans for PS Records were not announced at the time of the launch.
