All-age support and activities brought together at Antrim Forum
Residents across Antrim and Newtownabbey are being invited to a free, one-stop community event at Antrim Forum that organisers say will showcase the range of services and support available across the borough. Community Connect will take place on Thursday 20 August, from 11:00 to 14:00, in the sports hall at Antrim Forum.
The event aims to provide practical information and face-to-face contact with statutory bodies, charities and community groups. According to the organisers, more than 60 organisations are due to attend and will be on hand to answer questions, signpost people to services and offer demonstrations and activities for all ages.
What will be available
Visitors will be able to access information on a broad range of issues, including health and wellbeing, employment, housing, finances, volunteering and transport. A number of Council teams will also be present, reflecting the event's cross-cutting purpose.
- Health and safety: MOT health checks, first aid demonstrations and representation from health providers and the Emergency Services.
- Social support: Advice from charities and community organisations on welfare, carers' support and mental health.
- Leisure and inclusion: Complimentary therapies, live music, line dancing and adapted sports such as boccia and armchair curling.
- Family activities: Inflatable bouncy castle, storytelling and arts and crafts to keep children engaged.
A broad cross-section of attendees has been listed, including the PSNI, Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service, Northern Health and Social Care Trust, Libraries NI and Guide Dogs NI. Community bodies such as Volunteer Now, Action Mental Health, Carers NI, Community Advice Antrim and Newtownabbey, and the Cedar Foundation are also expected to take part.

Council presence and community engagement
Council teams from Community Planning, Environmental Health, Waste, Parks, Leisure, Economic Development, Good Relations and the Ending Violence Against Women and Girls programme are listed among those attending. The broad representation indicates a focus on both immediate practical advice and longer-term community planning and wellbeing.
“Community Connect is a fantastic opportunity for residents to meet the organisations that provide valuable support and services across our Borough. Whether you're looking for advice, want to discover local groups, or simply enjoy a fun day out with the family, there will be something for everyone.”
The Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Henry Cushinan, made the remark above when promoting the event. His comment highlights the council’s intention that the day should serve both informative and social purposes for people across the borough.
Practical considerations and who should attend
The event is free to attend and designed to be accessible to a wide audience — from those seeking specialist advice to families looking for a day out. In addition to advisory stands, the schedule of demonstrations and activities is intended to provide practical learning and entertain younger visitors throughout the three-hour period.
Organisers have also encouraged community groups and organisations to attend and engage, underlining the event’s objective of strengthening local networks and improving awareness of available services. For residents who may not regularly engage with statutory or voluntary services, the concentrated format offers a convenient opportunity to make contacts and gather information.
Further details about the day, such as the full list of exhibitors and the activity timetable, are expected to be published by council channels ahead of the event.
