Inspection clears final stretch of Dallirajhara–Rowghat project
New Delhi, Sep 23: Indian Railways has completed the Commission of Railway Safety (CRS) inspection and speed trial for the final Taroki–Rowghat section of the Dallirajhara–Rowghat New Rail Line Project in Chhattisgarh, the railways said in an official statement on Wednesday. The 17.5 km stretch is part of the wider 95 km project and is a single‑line, electrified broad‑gauge link located in a remote area of south Chhattisgarh.
During the CRS inspection and speed trial, the railway line, bridges and culverts, electrification, signalling and other safety and technical arrangements were examined, the statement said. The operational capacity and safety standards of the section were tested in accordance with prescribed procedure.
What the new section connects and who it benefits
At present, regular railway services run from Dallirajhara to Taroki. Completion of the Taroki–Rowghat section will extend rail operations further into the region and is expected to:
- Strengthen rail connectivity between the project area and the state capital, Raipur, as well as the industrial city of Bhilai;
- Facilitate transportation of iron ore to Bhilai Steel Plant, supporting steel industry supply chains;
- Improve movement of agricultural produce and local commercial goods from rural and remote areas;
- Enhance access to education, health and employment opportunities for citizens in surrounding communities.
"Train operations in the Taroki‑Rowghat section will strengthen rail connectivity in the surrounding areas and provide better and convenient transportation options to the citizens of the region," the statement said.
Economic and regional implications
Indian Railways highlighted that the line will help carry iron ore to the Bhilai Steel Plant, a key input for steel production. The project is therefore framed as both a passenger connectivity measure and a freight corridor with potential downstream effects on industry and trade in the region. The statement also said the expansion of rail transport would promote tourism, investment and other economic activities, contributing to the social and economic development of the area.
For Raipur residents and businesses, the extended link implies shorter and more reliable rail access to south Chhattisgarh's mining and agricultural hinterlands. Improved freight movement to Bhilai could ease logistics for firms dependent on raw materials, while enhanced passenger links may widen commuting and education options between Raipur and the project area.
Project snapshot
| Project | Detail |
|---|---|
| Dallirajhara–Rowghat New Line | 95 km (total) |
| Taroki–Rowghat section | 17.5 km, single electrified broad‑gauge |
| Current passenger services | Dallirajhara to Taroki |
The statement did not provide a formal commissioning date for the Taroki–Rowghat section. The CRS inspection and speed trial mark a key procedural milestone that typically precedes operational clearance, subject to formal approvals and scheduling by the railways.
Railway officials said the inspection evaluated all safety and technical systems; further administrative steps will determine when regular train services begin on the newly examined stretch. Once operational, the new section is expected to integrate the remote southern parts of the state more closely with Raipur and the Bhilai industrial belt.
Local authorities and stakeholders in Raipur and neighbouring districts will be watching subsequent notifications from Indian Railways for details on train schedules and freight allocations that will define the practical benefits for passengers and industry.
