Widespread blockages, infrastructure hits reported
The State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) reported on Sunday that 78 roads across Himachal Pradesh remain blocked following torrential monsoon rains, with damage also affecting power and drinking-water delivery in several districts.
According to the SEOC, the highest number of blockages was recorded in Mandi with 36 roads closed, followed by Kullu where 22 roads are obstructed. Other districts reporting closures include Kangra (7), Sirmaur (5), Una (3), Shimla (2) and Lahaul and Spiti (1).

Where essential services are affected
The SEOC said 12 electricity transformers have been rendered non-operational, with the bulk of those—10—located in Kullu district and the remaining two in Shimla. In addition, authorities reported disruption to eight drinking-water supply schemes, five in Shimla district and three in Chamba. The SEOC did not provide an estimate for the number of households impacted by the power and water disruptions.
Rain forecast and temperatures
Authorities indicated that light to moderate rain is likely to continue across Himachal Pradesh until September 12. Over the next few days, minimum temperatures are expected to remain near normal, while daytime maxima may rise by 2°C to 3°C, the SEOC said.
In the past 24 hours, monitoring stations recorded varied rainfall and temperatures across the state. The highest rainfall total was registered at Nahan with 53.6 mm, while other notable readings included Dharamshala with 17 mm and Shimla with 2.2 mm.

The lowest minimum temperature noted was 9.5°C at Keylong in Lahaul and Spiti, while Una recorded the state's highest daytime reading at 34.6°C.
Implications for travel and utilities
With dozens of roads still blocked, travel within and between affected districts is likely to remain disrupted until clearances and repairs are completed. The concentration of transformer failures in Kullu and the water-supply interruptions reported in Shimla and Chamba suggest both urban and rural populations could face intermittent outages. Motorists, commuters and residents in affected areas are advised to allow extra time for journeys, check local utility advisories and follow instructions from district authorities.
Local administrations and emergency response teams have been monitoring the situation, removing debris where possible and assessing damage to infrastructure. The SEOC continues to collate district-level reports to prioritise clearance and restoration work as the rains persist.
