Region schedules phased work on key Bowmanville corridors
Durham Region has advised motorists and residents in the Municipality of Clarington to expect a series of lane restrictions beginning Aug. 31 on several major Bowmanville streets as crews install utility infrastructure and complete road rehabilitation.
The work is concentrated on Liberty Street North (Regional Road 14) and a number of stretches along Bowmanville Avenue (Regional Road 57), Regional Highway 2 and Stevens Road. Portions of Dundas Street East in Whitby will also see restrictions related to a separate water-disconnection project.
According to the Region, the Liberty Street North activity — intended to safely install water and sanitary services to support new development — will include alternating lane limitations both day and night between Aug. 31 and Sept. 4. The affected corridor runs north and southbound from Wellington Street to Carlisle Avenue in Bowmanville.

The Region described the Bowmanville Avenue and Highway 2 work as necessary for road rehabilitation and paving. Specific restriction points listed by the Region for Bowmanville Avenue and adjacent corridors include:

Work on Dundas Street East in Whitby will see westbound lane restrictions from Anderson Street to about 70 metres east of Anderson to allow crews to safely disconnect a water service in support of local development. That activity is scheduled to run through Sept. 4.
"The region said it realizes that the work may be disruptive and will make every effort to complete it as quickly and efficiently as possible."
Durham Region cautioned that unfavourable weather could affect the planned schedule. Drivers have been asked to exercise caution and be alert for pedestrians, cyclists and work crews in and around the work zones.
For residents of Clarington, the timing of these works coincides with the end of summer travel patterns and the return to school for some families. The multi-site nature of the projects means commuters who routinely use Highway 2, Bowmanville Avenue or Liberty Street North may need to factor extra time into trips or consider alternate routes during the listed periods.
