Missouri State Highway Patrol launches Show Me Shield, new Courage2Report hotline for school threats

The Missouri State Highway Patrol has replaced its SafeNation app with a new website, Show Me Shield, and moved its Courage2Report school safety hotline to a dedicated site and phone line, providing 24/7 reporting for suspicious activity and school threats.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The Missouri State Highway Patrol has overhauled how residents report suspicious activity and school safety concerns, replacing two older tools with dedicated websites and a new phone line that will be monitored around the clock.

New online reporting replaces app

The Patrol has retired the SafeNation app and introduced a web-based tip portal called Show Me Shield. The site is designed to accept reports of unusual packages, suspicious behavior near buildings, or people asking specific questions about security procedures or staff schedules. Tips submitted through the portal are routed into a homeland security database and reviewed by patrol personnel 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

School hotline moved to new platform and number

At the same time, the agency moved its Courage2Report school violence and anti-bullying hotline off the old platform. The school safety tool now lives at www.courage2reportmo.com and can be reached by phone at 1-866-748-7047. Students, parents, school staff and members of the public can submit anonymous tips about threats, bullying or concerns for a student’s welfare.

“We encourage anyone who sees something suspicious that could be terrorism-related to use that SARS hotline,” Lt. Eric Brown of the Missouri State Highway Patrol said. “And anyone from the public at all, whether you are a student, you work at a school, you are a caregiver, a parent or guardian from someone that’s at school, or just a citizen who learns of something that could possibly occur in a school, we encourage them to use that hotline and make those reports.”

The Patrol emphasized that the new platforms are active immediately and that the older SafeNation and previous Courage2Report apps are deactivated and no longer monitored. Officials urged Missourians to update any bookmarks or informational materials to reflect the change.

What to report and how tips are handled

Patrol officials said the range of concerns appropriate for the portals includes anything from potential terrorism indicators to school-specific threats or bullying incidents. Tips entered into the systems are reviewed by trained professionals and integrated into homeland security processes when appropriate.

  • Show Me Shield — web portal for suspicious activity and security concerns.
  • Courage2Report — dedicated website and tip line for school threats, bullying and student safety.
  • 24/7 coverage — both services are monitored year-round by trained staff.

Public feedback survey underway

In addition to the launches, the Patrol is conducting a public opinion survey through the end of the month. The survey seeks residents’ views on troopers, dispatchers and other patrol services. Officials say public feedback will help shape future outreach and operational priorities.

Local education officials and school safety coordinators will likely want to update their materials with the new Courage2Report contact information and remind families that anonymous reporting remains available. For parents and guardians, the change means a new web address and a single toll-free number to share with students who may be reluctant to speak directly to school staff.

Why the change matters

Transitioning from apps to web-based portals can offer broader compatibility across devices and reduce the friction of app installation, which may increase reporting by people who prefer not to download additional software. The Patrol’s continued commitment to 24/7 monitoring aims to ensure that tips are assessed promptly and routed to appropriate responders when credible threats are identified.

Officials reiterated that tips should be used responsibly and that the new systems are meant to supplement, not replace, direct emergency contacts when immediate danger is present. In situations where there is an immediate threat to life or property, callers should still dial 911.
