MEMPHIS — Memphis police are searching for a driver and vehicle after two people were struck by a pickup truck on a downtown sidewalk late Saturday night, authorities said.
Officials respond to incident near Danny Thomas Boulevard
Officers were called to the 80 block of Danny Thomas Boulevard just before 10:30 p.m. after reports that two pedestrians were found injured on the sidewalk, according to Memphis police. Emergency responders transported both victims to a hospital; police described their injuries as noncritical, noting abrasions and bruises.
A witness told investigators the assault followed an argument in the parking lot of the TACOnganas restaurant. That witness said the truck mounted the curb and struck the pedestrians.
“The driver of a grey pickup truck drove onto the sidewalk at a high speed and struck them,”
Police said the witness reported seeing a man and a woman inside the vehicle. Investigators are treating the case as an intentional act and are actively seeking the vehicle and its occupants.
What investigators are seeking from the public
- Identification of a grey pickup truck seen near Danny Thomas Boulevard around 10:30 p.m. Saturday.
- Any surveillance video from the TACOnganas parking lot, nearby businesses or doorbell cameras that may show the confrontation or the truck leaving the scene.
- Witnesses who saw the argument in the parking lot or observed the vehicle mounting the curb.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 901-528-CASH, police said. Tipsters can often provide critical leads that help investigators locate suspects or corroborate timelines and narratives in fast-moving cases.
Downtown safety and broader concerns
Incidents involving vehicles driven onto sidewalks raise particular concerns in dense, mixed-use areas such as parts of downtown Memphis, where restaurants, bars and pedestrian traffic intersect late into the evening. City officials and business owners have previously debated measures aimed at reducing conflicts in parking areas and improving pedestrian safety, including enhanced lighting, traffic-calming features and more visible law enforcement presence.
While authorities have not released the identities of the victims or suspects, the description provided by the witness — a grey pickup truck and two occupants — gives investigators a starting point. The Memphis Police Department routinely asks businesses with surveillance cameras to review footage and share anything relevant to active investigations.
Downtown residents and visitors should remain vigilant. If you believe you have information but wish to remain anonymous, Crime Stoppers offers that option when reporting tips. Timely community responses can shorten investigations and help prevent additional incidents.
