NORMAN, Okla. — HeyDay Entertainment, the family entertainment center that has operated in Norman for nearly 20 years, announced it will cease regular public operations on Friday, Aug. 28, 2026, after an agreement to sell the site to the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority for planned highway construction.
What the closure means locally
The facility said it will continue to honor previously scheduled private events through September, and outstanding HeyDay gift cards and credits can be redeemed at the company’s other locations. Management also said it will evaluate rebuilding on adjacent property once construction is complete.
HeyDay’s Norman site has been a hub for bowling, laser tag, mini golf and arcade games for families, schools, churches and local organizations. Leaders at the company emphasized a focus on staff support and orderly winding down of operations in statements accompanying the announcement.
- Regular public operations end: Aug. 28, 2026.
- Private events: facility will host prebooked private events through September 2026.
- Employee celebration: invitation-only event for former and current employees and families on Aug. 30, 2026, from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.
“For nearly 20 years, HeyDay has been proud to serve Norman and the surrounding communities,” said owner Trey Bates. “We are deeply grateful to the guests, employees, schools, businesses, churches and community organizations that have made HeyDay part of their celebrations and family traditions.”
Company statement and next steps
In its public statement, HeyDay said the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority purchased the property as part of planned highway construction. The company credited the OTA with providing flexibility that allowed a more orderly transition.
“Although this has been an emotional process, the OTA treated HeyDay fairly and provided the flexibility needed for an orderly transition,” Bates said. “After construction is complete, we can evaluate the possibility of rebuilding on adjacent property.”
The company also announced a private celebration on Aug. 30 for current and former employees and their families. The event will include complimentary bowling, laser tag, mini golf and arcade play from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m., the announcement said.
Local impacts and unresolved questions
The sale and planned closure raise immediate questions for employees, regular patrons and organizations that used the venue for fundraising and events. HeyDay said its priorities include supporting its team and honoring customer commitments during the wind-down.
Officials with the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority have identified the site as needed for the agency’s highway project; HeyDay’s statement framed the property sale as part of that plan. The company indicated the OTA’s cooperation helped facilitate an orderly transition but provided no timetable for reconstruction or details about any future HeyDay location in Norman.

Community members seeking to use HeyDay for events later this year should consult the company directly about existing reservations. The announcement also advised that gift cards and credits for the Norman location will be accepted at other HeyDay properties.
As with any major land acquisition tied to transportation projects, the sale will likely affect local traffic patterns, site development and event options for Norman residents. The company’s offer to consider rebuilding nearby after construction concludes leaves open the possibility of a return, but there are no specifics yet on timing, scope or location.
The closure marks the end of an era for a venue many Norman families used for birthday parties, school outings and community gatherings. For now, patrons and employees will watch the OTA project and any future discussions between the authority and HeyDay to see whether the arcade and entertainment center can be part of Norman’s next chapter.
