The Pulitzer Prize’s traveling exhibition "Pulitzer on the Road: Prize-Winning Works that Inform, Empower & Inspire" will open in Dallas this fall, giving residents a rare, free opportunity to see award-winning journalism, literature, photography and music up close. The 1,400-square-foot exhibit arrives at the J. Erik Jonsson Central Library in downtown Dallas on Oct. 24 and will remain on display through December.
What the exhibition will include
Organizers say the exhibition is divided into six thematic sections and uses immersive, interactive stations to present works that have received the Pulitzer Prize since its establishment in 1917. The display will feature:
- Iconic photography, including images from World War II and conflicts in Vietnam, Ukraine and the Middle East.
- Literary works spanning poetry, fiction and drama — with examples from prize winners such as Sylvia Plath, Robert Frost, Toni Morrison, John Steinbeck, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Arthur Miller.
- Selections highlighting journalism that has shaped public understanding and civic life.
The exhibit’s six sections include Seeing America, Bearing Witness in the World and Making a Difference, among others, according to promotional materials.
Launch events and public programming
Opening night in Dallas on Oct. 24 will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a special launch event that pairs noted writers and musicians who have received the prize. The program will feature a conversation with 2023 Pulitzer Prize–winning author Barbara Kingsolver and 2026 Pulitzer winner Gabriela Frank, a composer who will also perform on piano. The conversation will be moderated by Ann McCutchan, an associate professor at the University of North Texas, and will conclude with a question-and-answer session.
"Pulitzer on the Road: Prize-Winning Works that Inform, Empower & Inspire" will be on display at the J. Erik Jonsson Central Library beginning Oct. 24.
Access and logistics
The exhibition is free to the public and is part of a nationwide tour that will visit 20 public libraries from October 2026 through May 2028. Two identical versions of the exhibition will be traveling simultaneously so that multiple communities can host the program during the tour. Each stop is scheduled to remain open for approximately six weeks.

Why it matters for Dallas
For Dallas residents and visitors, the exhibition provides a centralized chance to engage with decades of Pulitzer-winning work without traveling to a larger museum in another city. The mix of visual journalism, literature and music offers school groups, university students, journalists, writers and general audiences structured ways to explore how prize-winning work has documented history and influenced public conversation. The evening events featuring Pulitzer winners also create a live cultural moment for the city’s literary and arts communities.
Organizers’ plans to include immersive and interactive stations mean that the exhibition is intended for a broad cross-section of attendees rather than being a static display. That format may enhance learning opportunities for teachers and librarians planning field trips or curricular tie-ins during the exhibition’s stay.
More information about the exhibition and related programming is available through the official site at pulitzerontheroad.pulitzer.org and through the Dallas Public Library’s event listings as the Oct. 24 opening approaches.
