POTTER COUNTY — A 21-year-old Amarillo man died Friday afternoon after his pickup truck struck a tractor-trailer as the large rig attempted to cross U.S. 287 at the intersection with FM 1912, the Texas Department of Public Safety said.
What happened
State troopers say the crash occurred about 3:13 p.m. when the driver of a tractor-trailer tried to cross the highway to turn east onto U.S. 287 South. The pickup, a 2024 Ford F-150 traveling west on U.S. 287 North, struck the trailer, authorities reported.
Emergency responders arrived to find the pickup driver, identified by DPS as Ryan Lane Simpson, 21 of Amarillo, deceased at the scene. The tractor-trailer driver, Juan Carlos Sanchez, 47, also of Amarillo, was not injured, according to DPS.
"Both drivers were wearing seat belts."
