Bridgeport task force seizes suspected crack, multiple firearms in East End probe

A roughly 30-day Bridgeport Police Task Force investigation led to the seizure of suspected crack cocaine and a cache of high-capacity firearms and ammunition, and to charges against a Bridgeport man. Authorities say cooperation with local and federal partners was key.

Bridgeport police said a focused investigation into narcotics and firearms activity in the city’s East End culminated in early August with the seizure of suspected crack cocaine and a substantial cache of weapons and ammunition and the charging of one local resident.

Investigation and warrants

The Bridgeport Police Task Force conducted about a 30-day probe that identified two Bridgeport residents -- Jamin McKoy and Dayne Johnson -- as targets of the inquiry, according to the department. Detectives developed information and sought court-authorized search and seizure warrants for the pair and residences associated with them.

On Aug. 5, the task force executed those warrants with help from the Trumbull Police Department and the FBI. Authorities said the multi-agency operation led to the recovery of narcotics and multiple firearms, along with ammunition and related equipment.

Seized items and charges

Police listed the recovered items as including approximately 60 grams of suspected crack cocaine and several firearms and magazines. Among the weapons were an AK-47–style rifle and three handguns, one of which was fitted with a high-capacity magazine holding about 30 rounds. Officers also recovered a drum-style magazine with an estimated capacity of 75 rounds, a firearm suppressor and additional large-capacity magazines.

  • Suspected narcotics: ~60 grams of suspected crack cocaine
  • Long gun: AK-47–style rifle
  • Handguns: 3 (one with ~30-round high-capacity magazine)
  • Large-capacity magazines: drum-style (~75 rounds) and at least one additional large-capacity magazine
  • Other: firearm suppressor, ammunition and related equipment

Police charged Jamin McKoy with Criminal Possession of a Firearm, Illegal Possession of an Assault Weapon, Carrying a Pistol Without a Permit and Illegal Possession of a Large-Capacity Magazine. Bond for McKoy was set at $250,000.

Authorities said Dayne Johnson will be charged by arrest warrant. Because Johnson uses a wheelchair and is confined, investigators stated they will coordinate the appropriate means of serving that warrant.

Forensic follow-up and collaboration

All recovered firearms will be submitted for ballistic testing and entered into the National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN) to determine whether any of the weapons are connected to other shootings or criminal investigations.

"The investigation demonstrates the importance of continued partnerships with local and federal law enforcement agencies," police said.

Police emphasized that the operation was a coordinated effort between Bridgeport police, the Trumbull Police Department and the FBI. Officials portrayed the collaboration as central to identifying suspects, securing warrants and executing the searches that produced the seizures.

The department has not released additional details about the timeline of the investigation, the residences searched or the anticipated timing of any further filings against Johnson. The bureau’s statement did not include information about whether any additional arrests or charges are expected.

Investigations that yield firearms and suspected narcotics often prompt further inquiries, including tracing of weapons, interviews of potential witnesses and reviews of surveillance or other evidence. For Bridgeport residents, the department’s account underscores continuing law enforcement efforts to disrupt illegal firearms and drug activity within city neighborhoods.

Anyone with information about the investigation or related activity in the East End is asked to contact the Bridgeport Police Department.
