The Noida Authority on Tuesday approved construction of a new 500-metre flyover across the Noida–Greater Noida Expressway to provide a direct link between Sector 148 and Sector 150, officials said. The project, cleared by the Authority's chief executive officer Krishna Karunesh, is estimated to cost ₹85 crore and aims to relieve persistent congestion and frequent flooding at the existing underpass, they added.
Why the flyover is being built
According to Noida Authority officials, commuters travelling between Sectors 148, 149, 150, 151, 152 and 153 currently depend on underpasses beneath the expressway to cross from one side to the other. These underpasses become choked during peak hours and are vulnerable to waterlogging during the monsoon season, disrupting movement and increasing travel time.
AK Arora, General Manager, Noida Authority, said preparations have started for construction of the proposed flyover and that the authority is preparing the Detailed Project Report (DPR). Work on the project will commence once the DPR and related approvals are completed, he said.
"The objective is to provide direct cross-expressway connectivity between sectors located on both sides of the expressway," officials said.
Planned to pass directly over the expressway, the flyover is expected to offer an uninterrupted crossing between Sectors 148 and 150, cutting the need to use existing interchanges and reducing travel time for daily commuters.
Who benefits and planning considerations
Noida Authority estimates that roughly two lakh residents living in the affected sectors will directly benefit from the project. In addition, about 20 villages in the nearby area are expected to gain improved connectivity.
- Reduce congestion at underpasses during peak hours
- Limit disruptions caused by monsoon-related flooding
- Provide direct cross-expressway connectivity, shortening travel times
- Accommodate future traffic growth as the area urbanises
Officials said the design is being developed with an eye on future traffic requirements, reflecting expectations of continued population growth and intensified urbanisation in Noida and its outskirts.
| Parameter | Detail |
|---|---|
| Length | 500 metres |
| Estimated cost | ₹85 crore |
| Direct beneficiaries | ~2 lakh residents |
| Nearby villages benefiting | ~20 villages |
Construction of a new flyover on a busy expressway will require coordination with traffic management units and may entail temporary diversions during execution. The authority has not yet released a timeline for tendering, land acquisition or traffic management plans; these details are expected to be finalised as part of the DPR process, officials said.
Local stakeholders have periodically raised concerns about connectivity across the expressway. Commuters and residents in sectors bordering the expressway have cited long detours, congestion at interchanges and repeated waterlogging of underpasses during heavy rains. The proposed flyover is positioned as a targeted intervention to address these operational and safety concerns.
As Noida continues to expand, infrastructure projects such as this flyover will be significant for daily mobility and for shaping traffic patterns across the eastern periphery of the city. Authorities say the project is being developed keeping future traffic projections in mind so that the structure can accommodate increasing demand as the region urbanises further.
Further updates, including the DPR timelines and procurement schedule, will be issued by the Noida Authority as the proposal advances through approval and execution stages, officials added.
