The Uttar Pradesh government on Monday ordered a major reshuffle of 17 Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers, altering leadership across divisional administration and several key departments, including AYUSH, Rural Development, Planning, Cooperation, Urban Development, Higher Education, Animal Husbandry and Consumer Affairs, official orders said.
New divisional leadership in Moradabad and Aligarh
As part of the exercise, Sangeeta Singh, a 2009-batch IAS officer, has been posted as Divisional Commissioner, Moradabad. She moves to Moradabad from Aligarh, where she was serving as Divisional Commissioner, according to the orders reported by government sources.
The reshuffle follows the completion of the extended Uttar Pradesh tenure of Aunjaneya Kumar Singh (IAS: 2005 batch, Sikkim cadre), who has been relieved from the state government with effect from 14 August 2026. Aunjaneya Kumar Singh had served as Divisional Commissioner, Moradabad, since 6 March 2021, and will now return to his parent cadre in Sikkim after the end of the extension, the orders said.
"The latest orders cover Moradabad and Aligarh divisions, along with AYUSH, Rural Development, Planning, Cooperation, Urban Development, Higher Education, Animal Husbandry and Consumer Affairs," official orders said.
Other notable postings
Following Sangeeta Singh's transfer, Om Prakash Arya, who was serving as Member (Judicial), Revenue Council, Prayagraj, has been appointed Divisional Commissioner, Aligarh. The reshuffle also includes the appointment of Gauri Shankar Priyadarshi, formerly Commissioner, Rural Development and Secretary, Rural Development Department, as Director General, AYUSH with the additional charge of Mission Director, National AYUSH Mission, Uttar Pradesh, the orders stated.
- Total officers moved: 17 IAS officers.
- Divisions directly affected in this exercise: Moradabad and Aligarh.
- Departments mentioned: AYUSH, Rural Development, Planning, Cooperation, Urban Development, Higher Education, Animal Husbandry, Consumer Affairs.
The government order did not list all 17 officers by name in the item circulated to the press; it highlighted the changes affecting divisional commissioners and certain departmental postings. The transfer comes at a time when divisional commissioners play a key role in coordinating district administration, law and order support, and implementation of state schemes across multiple districts in their division.

Local context and likely impact
The appointment of a new divisional commissioner in Moradabad is significant for the division, which comprises multiple districts and is a focus area for state development initiatives. Divisional commissioners supervise coordination among district magistrates, oversee implementation of government schemes, and facilitate inter-departmental actions on law and order and development matters.
Aunjaneya Kumar Singh's tenure in Moradabad drew attention during his earlier tenure as District Magistrate of Rampur, where administration actions involving former Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan were noted in public records while he served in the district. The state government’s decision not to extend his tenure beyond 14 August 2026 means fresh leadership will now guide divisional coordination.
Officials said the reshuffle forms part of routine administrative rotations that the state periodically undertakes to refresh leadership and ensure administrative continuity across divisions and departments. How the new appointees prioritise development work, law and order management and scheme implementation in Moradabad and neighbouring districts will be watched closely by local political actors and civic stakeholders.
Further details on the remaining transfers among the 17 officers were not immediately available in the circular made public; the state secretariat is expected to issue the full list of postings in due course, officials said.
