Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari on Friday inaugurated the Mukhyamantri Sugam Parivahan Seva and the PM e-Bus service at a state-level programme in Bhopal, flagging off a fleet of 351 intercity and intracity buses that will operate in seven cities across the state.
Programme aims and rollout
The new services were launched under the state’s Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, an initiative timed to coincide with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday, and are intended to expand safe, modern and environment-friendly public transport across urban and rural areas. Officials said the project targets strengthening connectivity to smaller towns and gram panchayats, making routine travel for work, education and health easier for residents.
A booklet detailing the Mukhyamantri Sugam Parivahan Seva was released at the event. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was also signed between Madhya Pradesh Yatri Parivahan and Infrastructure Limited (MPYPIL), IIM Indore and the School of Planning and Architecture, underlining a partnership approach to planning, monitoring and optimisation of the new services.
Where the buses will run
Officials said the initial phase will see routes in seven cities: Indore, Bhopal, Jabalpur, Rewa, Dewas, Katni and Bhind. Distribution details released at the launch show the following placements for the first tranche of buses:
- Indore: 145 buses (50 intercity, 95 intracity)
- Bhopal: 106 buses (23 intercity, 83 intracity)
- Jabalpur: 67 buses

Government statements and context
At the launch, Chief Minister Yadav described the move as an important measure to enhance road transport and improve mobility across Madhya Pradesh. He highlighted the state’s recent road-building record and framed the new bus services as part of broader connectivity goals.
“Over 5 lakh kilometres of roads have been constructed in our state. Our effort is to extend transportation facilities to even small villages and towns so that people do not face any difficulty in travelling for their essential work,” the Chief Minister said.
The Chief Minister also noted that the Union Minister reviewed ongoing National Highway projects in the state during his visit. Yadav said Gadkari agreed to provide temporary relief by waiving toll charges at a location where an overbridge is to be constructed, until the bridge is completed and the toll arrangement is resolved.
Institutional partnerships and expected benefits
The MoU signed with IIM Indore and the School of Planning and Architecture suggests the state plans to leverage institutional expertise for route-planning, demand forecasting and service design. Officials indicated the exercise is aimed at improving operational efficiency and ensuring the service responds to commuter needs.
Transport department statements said the scheme will emphasise safety, comfort and environmental sustainability. The parallel launch of PM e-Bus services points to a push for cleaner public transport, although details on the composition of the fleet and timelines for electrification were not specified at the event.
Local impact and rollout considerations
For residents of smaller towns and panchayats, expanded bus links can reduce travel time to district centres and access to markets, hospitals and educational institutions. Implementation challenges will include finalising detailed schedules, ticketing systems, last-mile connectivity and integration with existing local services.
Officials present at the launch said further operational details, including exact routes, fares and timetables, will be announced by the state Transport Department as the roll-out proceeds in phases.
The combined state–centre review of highways and the bus launch reflect concurrent efforts to improve both road infrastructure and public transport in Madhya Pradesh, signalling a coordinated approach to mobility planning.
