Woman found dead in rented house; police register FIR
Jhansi police on Monday registered a case after a 27-year-old woman was found dead at a rented accommodation in the Sipri Bazar area of the city. Medical staff at Jhansi Medical College declared the woman dead after she was brought in unconscious; doctors recorded strangulation as the cause of death and noted injuries on five areas of her face, according to official statements.
The deceased has been identified by relatives as Shivani (also known as Sudha), originally from Indergarh in Datia district of Madhya Pradesh. She had been living in Jhansi for nearly three months with her sister and brother.
Husband suspected; police seek absconding man
Police said the victim's husband, named in the FIR as Yash Thakur of Gwalior, is a prime suspect and is currently absconding. Investigators said family members complained that the couple had previous disputes and that Yash had allegedly assaulted Shivani on multiple occasions.
SP City Preeti Singh confirmed that Yash was wanted in the case and said teams had been formed to trace and arrest him.
Superintendent of Police City Preeti Singh told reporters the police received information of a dispute between the couple on August 31. A subsequent complaint by Shivani's family led to registration of the FIR after the woman was found unconscious beneath a bed near Fauji Tiraha in Awas Vikas Colony the next morning.

Officials also said Yash allegedly fled with Shivani's mobile phone and that both phones remained switched off after the incident. Investigators noted there were pending criminal cases against Yash, and those records are being reviewed as part of the probe.
Family account and background
According to the family, Shivani had met Yash on social media about two years earlier and the couple had married 18 months ago. Her younger sister, Muskan, who shared the rented accommodation and was reportedly sleeping in the next room on the night of the incident, told police she did not hear any struggle; investigators said they would probe how that was possible.
