Family feud ends in fatal shooting in Kanpur Cantonment
Kanpur police on Monday said a 28-year-old woman was killed after being shot in the abdomen when she intervened in a quarrel connected to her younger sister’s marital dispute. The incident occurred at Satti Crossing in the Cantonment area on Sunday evening, officials said, and has prompted a continuing probe into the roles of several suspects who fled the scene.
The deceased has been identified as Chandni. She was taken to Kamala Nehru Memorial (KPM) Hospital after being shot, but doctors declared her dead, Commissioner of Police Raghubir Lal said, according to police statements reported to PTI.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Satyajeet Gupta, the trouble earlier on Sunday began when Santosh visited his in-laws’ home at about 5 pm and argued with his wife. Police said Sarojini slapped him during the encounter. A few hours later, Santosh’s brother Vinod, cousin Anshu and two or three other men allegedly arrived on motorcycles and confronted the family, abusing them, the DCP said.
When Chandni intervened, Vinod is alleged to have produced a country-made pistol and fired at close range, striking her in the abdomen. The accused then reportedly fired a shot into the air and fled the scene, causing panic in the locality. Forensic teams and investigators inspected the area and collected evidence, police added.
“The firing appears to be connected to a long-running dispute between the families,” Commissioner Raghubir Lal said, according to the police account provided to PTI.
