The Gujarat government has announced plans to establish a dedicated Quantum Mission in the state to push development and adoption of quantum technologies in areas such as computing, communication and cybersecurity. The state Department of Science and Technology (DST) will oversee the new body and expedite projects allocated to Gujarat under the National Quantum Mission, officials said.
State-level drive aligned with national programme
According to the statement, the Gujarat mission will be modelled on the national initiative but tailored to local priorities, with a particular emphasis on building an ecosystem for research, technology development, entrepreneurship and industry collaboration. The mission is expected to support projects in university and laboratory settings, help create skilled manpower, and encourage start-ups and established firms to work on quantum hardware and software.
“Gujarat’s mission will be developed along the lines of the national initiative and will work specifically towards the growth of quantum technologies in the state,” Science and Technology Minister Arjun Modhwadia said.
