Tiruchirappalli, 8 September: Western Railway has announced that the weekly special service between Ahmedabad and Tiruchirappalli will be converted into a regular weekly Express with effect from 24 September 2026. The existing special service operating as 09419/09420 will be re-numbered and run as 19419/19420 Ahmedabad–Tiruchirappalli–Ahmedabad Weekly Express, the railway's schedule notice reported.
Timings and commencement
The up service, train 19419 Ahmedabad–Tiruchirappalli Express, will depart Ahmedabad at 9.20 am every Thursday and reach Tiruchirappalli at 3.35 am on Saturday, the third day of the run. The down service, train 19420 Tiruchirappalli–Ahmedabad Express, will leave Tiruchirappalli at 5.45 am every Sunday and is scheduled to arrive in Ahmedabad at 9.15 pm on Monday. The return service will begin from 27 September 2026, according to the notice.

Western Railway said the conversion into a regular Express will offer travellers predictable timings, easier advance reservations and generally lower fares compared with a special train. The service will provide direct links between Gujarat and a number of cities across Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
Major stations listed in the schedule that are relevant to passengers bound for Tiruchirappalli and other destinations in Tamil Nadu include:
- Arakkonam, Perambur (Chennai), Chennai Egmore and Tambaram — offering connections to Chennai suburban and long-distance services;
- Villupuram, Cuddalore, Chidambaram, Sirkazhi, Mayiladuthurai, Kumbakonam — serving central and coastal Tamil Nadu;
- Papanasam and Thanjavur — providing direct access to key cultural and district centres before terminating at Tiruchirappalli.
The full route also includes stops at Vadodara, Surat, Valsad, Vapi, Vasai Road, Kalyan, Pune, Solapur, Kalaburagi, Wadi, Mantralayam, Guntakal, Renigunta and other stations en route, the railway notice said.
"Conversion to a regular Express will benefit passengers with a fixed timetable, lower fares and easier advance reservations," the Western Railway notice said.
Local implications
The regularisation is expected to be welcomed by passengers in Tiruchirappalli and neighbouring districts who travel to western and central India for work, education, pilgrimage and tourism. A weekly fixed service may particularly assist those planning onward journeys from Tiruchirappalli to Chennai and other connecting hubs, given the train's halts at major Tamil Nadu junctions.
Rail users in the city said regular services generally improve clarity for monthly and long-term planning, including reservations for families and students travelling during term breaks. The fixed timetable may also ease demand peaks that sometimes accompany special trains run during festivals or seasonal travel periods.
Western Railway's conversion does not, in the published notice, detail coach composition or fare slabs for the new regular service. Passengers are advised to check the official Indian Railways reservation system or enquiry counters at Tiruchirappalli for coach configuration, fare information and booking availability once the service opens for advance reservations.
With commencement dates set for late September, advance-reservation windows and ticket releases will determine how quickly commuters and long-distance travellers can secure berths on the weekly Express.
