Welcome-back activities and free swims

Sessions will be held from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 to 8 p.m. The free swims are being offered on a first-come, first-served basis and are subject to capacity limits.

Local impact and access
Pool closures for reconstruction can disproportionately affect families, seniors and neighbourhood recreation routines across Durham Region. The reopening restores a local aquatic option for lap swimming, family leisure swims and the swim lessons that many parents and guardians rely on for safety and skill development.
By extending free leisure swimming to Oshawa residents through the end of the year, council has temporarily removed a financial barrier to access. Reinstating programs in mid-October means parents and guardians will have the chance to enrol children in lessons that often fill quickly; the early morning registration time signals demand is expected to be strong.
Residents looking to attend should check the city's online information for the full leisure schedule, any health and safety guidelines in effect, and the requirements for the complimentary swims, including acceptable forms of government-issued photo ID that demonstrate Oshawa residence.
The South Oshawa Community Centre's pool had undergone extensive work to address structural and operational needs; with reopening now set, the city is positioning the facility to serve its local community "for years to come."
