Truro attraction wins national recognition
An independent escape-room in Truro, Enigma Escape Cornwall, has been named the best in the country at the inaugural UK Escape Room Awards 2026, organisers announced this month. Run by a husband-and-wife team, the business captured the top spot from more than 2,000 eligible venues and is being hailed as an example of small-scale creative enterprise making a national impact.
The business, operated by Oli and Megan Eastwood-Wright, launched the winning experience, Fear of the Unknown, in May 2025 after 13 months of development. The attraction is inspired by the horror fiction of H.P. Lovecraft and is described by the creators as a highly narrative, puzzle-driven experience set in Arkham, Massachusetts in 1928.
Organisers of the awards said the competition was open to any escape room currently operating in the UK, with the pool of entrants exceeding 2,000. Finalists were selected based on votes from players who had completed at least 50 escape rooms, a process designed to prioritise informed feedback from experienced participants.
"We were completely overwhelmed, gobsmacked and in total shock when we saw the result," a spokesperson for Enigma Escape Cornwall said, adding the recognition made the team "unbelievably proud."

Enigma Escape Cornwall describes Fear of the Unknown as a 90-minute experience designed for two to six players and recommended for ages 12 and up. The game is notable for its strong narrative focus, multiple possible endings and physically interactive design elements. The team credits family, friends and a creative support team, including a skilled carpenter and experienced games leaders, for bringing the project to life.
