Two people riding a motorcycle died after a crash with a sedan in Welland on Saturday morning, Niagara Regional Police Services (NRPS) said.
Collision near Ontario Road
Police and emergency crews responded to the collision near Ontario Road and Hobson Avenue at about 8:20 a.m.. Officers attempted life-saving measures at the scene after the motorcycle struck the side of a Honda Civic, but a man who had been operating the motorcycle was pronounced dead on site.
Niagara Emergency Medical Services transported a woman who had been a passenger on the bike to an out-of-region hospital, where she later died, NRPS said. The driver of the sedan was not injured.
Investigation under way
NRPS said the force’s collision unit is investigating the circumstances of the crash. Investigators are asking anyone who may have dash-cam, helmet-cam or other video recordings of the incident to contact police to assist with the probe.
“Niagara regional police's collision unit are investigating the crash.”
At this stage, investigators have not released the names of the deceased, nor have they publicly identified the hospital where the woman was treated. Police did not provide details about road or weather conditions at the time of the crash.
Local response and context
This collision adds to a worrying pattern of serious motorcycle crashes across southern Ontario in recent years, particularly on urban and suburban roads where vehicles interact closely. Welland, part of the Niagara region, has a mix of residential streets and busier arterial routes where turning and crossing traffic can create hazardous conflict points for motorcyclists.
Family members and friends of those involved are likely to be notified by police before further details are released. NRPS has not indicated whether charges are expected or whether speed, impairment or mechanical failure are factors under active consideration.
How the public can help
Police have asked the public to check for any recordings in the area around the time of the crash. Information that might assist investigators includes:
- Dash-cam or phone video showing the approach or the collision
- Witness recollections of the vehicles’ speeds, lane positions or driving behaviour
- Any additional images taken on nearby properties or by security cameras
Members of the public with relevant footage or information are asked to contact Niagara Regional Police Services. NRPS typically provides updates as new, confirmed facts become available.

Safety reminders
While details in this case remain under investigation, collisions between motorcycles and passenger vehicles often occur during turns or when a driver fails to see a motorcyclist. Motorcyclists and drivers can reduce risk by keeping awareness high, signalling clearly, and allowing extra space for one another on the road. Wearing approved helmets and protective gear remains a key safety measure.
Further updates will be provided by Niagara Regional Police Services as the investigation progresses. Anyone with video or information is asked to contact NRPS directly.
