MARIETTA — A woman out for exercise in a Cobb County apartment complex was reportedly forced to run for her life and hide behind a dumpster after a man allegedly drove a vehicle at her on three separate occasions, according to a criminal warrant and statements from law enforcement.
Investigators identified the suspect as Jesse Allen Davis, 21. The incident occurred July 19 at the Sedgefield Apartments, police said. Davis is accused of intentionally accelerating a 2004 Nissan Sentra toward the woman after the two exchanged what authorities described as a brief, polite greeting.
Sequence of events
According to the warrant obtained by news outlets and comments from Cobb County police, the situation escalated rapidly after the greeting. The first approach ended when another driver moved into Davis’ path, forcing him to stop before making contact with the woman. She fled toward her residence, but Davis allegedly pursued her and again drove at her in the area of Commons Lane.
When the woman sought cover behind a dumpster to avoid the second attempt, Davis allegedly maneuvered the vehicle and attempted a third time to strike her before leaving the scene. The woman contacted 911 while hiding, police said.
"He got into a vehicle, and for whatever reason he attempted to strike her with the vehicle while she was in the parking lot," Cobb County Police Sgt. Eric Smith told WSB-TV.
Cobb County authorities later arrested Davis and charged him with felony aggravated assault and misdemeanor hit-and-run. Law enforcement officials did not release further details about his arraignment or bond at the time of the warrant’s publication.
Community safety and next steps
The account underscores growing concern among residents about safety in and around apartment complexes, where pedestrians frequently share space with vehicles. Police did not indicate whether Davis and the victim were previously known to one another beyond the brief greeting.
Officials urge anyone who witnesses aggressive driving or threatening behavior to move to a safe location and call 911 immediately. Preserving vehicle descriptions, license-plate information and any available surveillance video can be critical for investigations.

What charges mean
Aggravated assault involving a weapon — including a vehicle used to harm or threaten — is treated as a felony in Georgia and can carry significant prison time if a conviction follows. Misdemeanor hit-and-run charges reflect allegations that Davis fled the scene after the incidents.
Lawyers and criminal-justice experts frequently note that prosecutors will weigh several pieces of evidence in cases like this: 911 calls, witness statements, any available video and the suspect's intent as shown by his actions. The warrant and police statements released so far present a timeline that law enforcement will likely use to support those allegations in court.
Authorities did not provide information on whether the woman was physically injured. No update on the victim's condition was included in the warrant or initial media reports.
Cobb County police are handling the investigation. Anyone with information about the incident or relevant video is asked to contact authorities through the department’s nonemergency line or Crime Stoppers resources.
