Late-night confrontation at 7-Eleven leads to arrest, prosecutors seek no bond
CORAL SPRINGS — A late-night encounter outside the 7-Eleven at 5615 N. University Drive ended with an arrest Sept. 1 after police say a man pointed a handgun at a customer, followed him down the street and was found with fentanyl in his pocket near a motel that police have linked to drug activity.
Police arrested Roger Wilson, 36, of Coconut Creek, after officers located him in the parking lot of the nearby Studio 6. Court records and a prosecutor’s motion say Wilson was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and fentanyl trafficking, among other counts.
According to the police report, the incident began around 2:30 a.m. when a man arrived at the 7-Eleven to pick up his girlfriend after her shift. Investigators say Wilson entered the store, flirted with the employee and offered to pay her to go to a room at the Studio 6. After she declined and identified her boyfriend, Wilson allegedly threatened to shoot the couple and was escorted from the store. The boyfriend later walked to a nearby bus stop to summon an Uber. When he called police, he told officers Wilson had reappeared, pointed a black handgun at him and followed him east along Westview Drive.

Officers found Wilson in the Studio 6 parking lot. Authorities say he initially refused commands and attempted to leave, prompting officers to deploy a Taser. During the arrest, police say they recovered 4.54 grams of fentanyl from Wilson’s pocket.

Prosecutors noted the fentanyl seizure occurred about 450 feet from Imagine Charter Elementary/Middle School, a detail cited in a state motion asking a judge to hold Wilson without bond while he awaits trial. The motion also references a criminal history and records showing Wilson has failed to appear at court proceedings seven times since 2020.
If convicted on all counts, prosecutors say Wilson faces up to 47 years in prison and a potential fine of $50,000. The fentanyl-trafficking charge carries a seven-year mandatory minimum sentence under state law.
