Deadline looms for international jazz vocal contest; finalists to perform at NJPAC
Vocalists in Vaughan with jazz ambitions have until Sept. 8, 2026 to register for the 15th annual Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition, organisers at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark announced. The contest is open to solo singers aged 18 and over from anywhere in the world who are not signed to a major label.
The competition — often referred to as the "SASSY Awards" in honour of the late jazz great Sarah Vaughan — has become a recognised springboard for emerging jazz vocal talent. In the fall, the field will be narrowed to the Top Five finalists, who will perform on the storied NJPAC stage on Nov. 22, 2026, in front of a live audience and a panel of well-known judges.
